Become a Tutor
Become a Writing Center Tutor!
As a Writing Center tutor, you will have the opportunity to hone valuable skills that will benefit you academically, personally and professionally. You will join a team of PNW undergraduate and graduate students in providing just-in-time writing support to students from all majors across the university.
Most tutors enjoy their work at the Writing Center so much that they return year after year, until graduation.
To be a PNW Writing Center Tutor, a student must:
- Be a current student at PNW, graduate or undergraduate, in any discipline
- Have completed ENGL 104 and ENGL 105 or equivalent with a grade of B or higher
- Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
- Have strong academic writing skills (including grammar, vocab, citations and clarity)
- Work responsibly both independently and on a team
- Be open to being a continuous learner as a student and a tutor (i.e. no student has to be an expert in writing to be a tutor)
Hours will be determined based on the student’s preference and class schedule. Tutors can work during the Fall, Spring and optional Summer academic semesters. Writing Center tutors are hourly employees.
Student employees at PNW may work no more than 20 hours a week at all places of employment combined.
How to Apply
Submit the following documents to writingcenter@pnw.edu.
- Resume
- Two academic writing samples (at least one should include citations)

Tutors are hired in August for the Fall Semester, in December for the Spring Semester and as the need arises.
