Windows 10 End of Life – Windows 11 Upgrade Timeline
Good afternoon,
As many of you may know, Microsoft has announced the “End Of Life” for Windows 10, with the official end date set for October 2025. In preparation for this transition, we must upgrade all existing Windows 10 systems to Windows 11. It is important to note that some older equipment may not support Windows 11 and will need to be replaced prior to this date. Over the past year, we have been conducting hardware audits across campus to identify machines that may need to be replaced due to compatibility issues with Windows 11.
Here are some important upcoming dates:
- Throughout the next two months: Users of Windows 10 workstations will begin receiving notifications on their Windows desktop. This notification will let the user know if their system is either compatible with Windows 11 (and allow them to upgrade when they are ready,) or not compatible with Windows 10. Both notifications will contain a link with further instructions. (An image of what these notifications will look like is attached to this email.)
- In the next few weeks: We will be sending out updated hardware audit reports to assist departments in this process. Our goal is to have all machines replaced or upgraded to Windows 11 by August 2025. This timeline will ensure a smooth transition and minimize any disruptions to your work.
- This summer: We will start updating all machines that are currently deployed and capable of running Windows 11 but have not yet been updated. Please watch for future emails with more information about the upgrade process and how it may affect you.
