Student research in life science and biochemistry receives $25,500 lift during PNW’s annual Day of Giving

Abshire funds research endowment in Purdue University Northwest’s Department of Biology

Having already been a Purdue University Northwest (PNW) student and lecturer, Carol Abshire is now a generous donor on Purdue Northwest’s annual Day of Giving celebration. Her $25,500 gift enhances the Abshire Monarch Endowment for Life Sciences and Biochemistry which supports student research.

“I couldn’t have picked a better time to support the sciences at PNW,” said Abshire whose favorite scientist is Jonas Salk, inventor of the Polio vaccine. “My hope is this endowment helps produce the next great group of scientists.”

PNW’s College of Engineering and Sciences Dean Kenneth Holford said Abshire has been a longtime friend, colleague, and supporter of the sciences at PNW. She has a strong interest in student engagement, as well as an unrivaled passion for the preservation of the environment and maintenance of species diversity.

“This endowment has provided meaningful support for a number of ecological projects over the past three years, and will continue to have a positive impact on both the students and the environment,” said Holford. “I am grateful for the support and honored to call her a friend.”

Purdue University Northwest (PNW) invites alumni, faculty, staff, parents, students and friends of the University to take part in the April 25 Purdue Northwest Day of Giving, a 24-hour opportunity to give to PNW and to support student scholarships, academic programs, athletics and more.
