Purdue Northwest Baja Racing
Professional and Departmental Organization
Purdue NW Baja Racing is about more than engineering and manufacturing. It’s an adventure for all PNW students. A cross-functional team of students gets together to lead, plan and implement solutions to problems that face the selected project.
MET – Baja SAE Collegiate Design Competition
Purdue NW Baja Racing is a competition, where students design and build an off-road vehicle to compete with against hundreds of schools all over the country. The objective of the competition is to provide SAE student members with a challenging project that involves the design, planning and manufacturing tasks found when introducing a new product to the consumer industrial market.
Teams compete to have their design accepted for manufacture by a fictitious firm. Students must function as a team to not only design, build, test, promote, and race a vehicle within the limits of the rules, but also to generate financial support for their project and manage their educational priorities.
Team members walk away from this experience with hands-on knowledge they could not have gained in a classroom, but most importantly they can look back at this event as one of the best times of their lives. The knowledge gained from this competition will greatly benefit each student, giving them the upper hand in the future. Our organization will enhance student life on campus by allowing students of any major to develop mechanical and automotive hands-on experience in a team setting. How do students get involved?
