“R” Drive Retirement – Timeline and Training Opportunities
Good morning,
Continuing the project of moving on-premise storage on to a more easily accessible cloud storage solution, we have begun the final phase of retiring the “R” drive – which is primarily used as departmental storage. Central Desktop Administration (CDA) has already moved many departments away from this local drive, and into SharePoint/OneDrive, and will continue to work with additional departments in the coming months. We would like to share information about upcoming training opportunities to ensure that your department is ready for the transition.
There are several training opportunities coming up – and all will be held in SULB 262 (no remote options are scheduled at this time):
- Monday, October 21 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, October 22 from 10:30 to 11 a.m.
- Friday, November 8 from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
The current plan for the retirement of the R Drive is to change this drive to “Read Only” during Spring Break (2025). This means that your department will continue to be able to reference the files on “R,” but will not be able to manipulate them or add new files to the folder(s). We will then work towards removing all access to the share prior to the start of the Fall 2025 semester. This follows a similar path that was taken to retire the “H” drive last academic year.
If your department has not yet made the move from “R” to a cloud storage solution, please email CSC@PNW.EDU and plan on attending one of the training sessions (or at least have departmental representation.) The CSC will create a ticket for your department, and you will be contacted by our CDA staff to start the transition process.
Thank you,
