Dear PNW Students, Faculty and Staff:

I am very pleased to announce that Purdue University Northwest plans to expand housing options for students by building a third residence hall on the Hammond campus, as approved by the Purdue University Board of Trustees today (12/13).

See the Official Purdue University Announcement

The 42,000-square-foot building will be located at the northeast corner of 173rd Street and Woodmar Avenue, just south of Lawshe Hall. Construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2025 and the building is expected to be ready for occupancy for the fall 2026 semester. The three-story dorm will provide 150 beds through a combination of single- and double-occupancy rooms, plus a common kitchen, laundry facilities, student study areas and a student lounge. The $29 million cost of the project will be self-financed by PNW.

This is exciting news for the future students of PNW and for our Northwest Indiana region. This fall, 96 percent of our first-year students attend classes full-time and for the third consecutive year, we have a waitlist for our two current residence halls.

Expanding the opportunities to live on campus promotes student success and helps meet growing needs for housing capacity. We appreciate the support of Purdue President Mung Chiang and the Board of Trustees in recognizing and addressing the need for additional housing options at PNW.

Sincerely,

PNW Chancellor Kenneth "Chris" Holford
