Planning for future classroom and student spaces on campus
I am excited to share that today, the Purdue University Board of Trustees approved a legislative capital request that would help PNW move to a new phase of facility enhancements on our Hammond campus.
Included in today’s approval of the systemwide capital plan is Purdue’s 2025-2027 Legislative Capital Project Request. This blueprint for the upcoming biennial request for funding of capital projects across the system includes a proposed $19 million to significantly renovate the Student Union and Library Building, demolish Porter Hall, and expand Founder’s Plaza. The proposal includes developing a state-of-the-art multimedia center for the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences as well as modern labs, classrooms and offices in SUL, intended to replace space in Porter.
While all of these potential projects have been previously identified in PNW’s Targeted Renewal Plan, the action by the Trustees gives us the opportunity to engage stakeholders from the PNW community in the transformation of indoor and outdoor spaces on campus. At the same time, we are in the midst of crafting PNW’s 2025-2030 strategic plan, “Excellence Evolving,” a prime opportunity for discussing how our university will rise to meet future student and workforce development needs. I look forward to discussing how these initiatives will help us reimagine areas that positively impact our students’ on-campus experiences.
