Introduction
Maria has made notable contributions to science and research through presentations on topics like neonatal abstinence syndrome and cultural awareness among new graduate nurses. Purdue University Northwest and the Indiana Organization of Nurse Leaders have awarded her research grants and accolades.
Maria’s research interests primarily focus on nursing leadership and transcultural nursing. Her specialty lies in involving students in leadership positions to enhance cultural understanding, encourage inclusivity and prepare them to navigate diverse healthcare environments.
She is dedicated to creating an inclusive learning environment that values diversity and promotes equity for students and faculty alike. Embracing inclusivity enhances learning and fosters a collaborative, supportive community where everyone can flourish, resulting in better academic results, enhanced creativity and a positive educational culture.
In addition to her academic and research endeavors, Maria is actively engaged in service activities within the College of Nursing, the university, the profession and the community. Within the university and the broader community, she is actively involved in multiple committees and initiatives focused on promoting Hispanic leadership initiatives.
