Joan Dorman, M.S., RN, CEN

Clinical Associate Professor

Introduction

I have been a professor at PNW for 20 years.

Teaching Focus

I teach the final critical care clinical, Nursing Ethics, Capstone, and online Collaboration and Case Management.

Previous Roles

I was a med/surg nurse for 13 years, and ER nurse for 10 years and the ER manager at a major hospital for 3 years.

Fun Fact

I went from being an unmotivated high school student to achieving a bachelor’s degree in education. After teaching for one year, I wound up staying home for eight years with my three children, no car and little money. Finally, when my youngest was 3, I thought I could get a job teaching. But I was unable to get to any available school jobs with no car. A friend said, “I’m going back to school to be a nurse.” My calling was “I’ll go with you!” That was the start of a 47-year career in nursing.
