Brian Miller
Director of Public Safety
Introduction
Brian Miller is the Director of Public Safety at Purdue University Northwest. Director Miller holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in public affairs and is a graduate of the FBI National Command Course, Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, the Southern Police Institute Executive Leadership School, Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, and the US Army Military Police Academy.
Miller has been in law enforcement for 33 years and formerly served as the chief of police at the City of Hammond Police Department. Miller commands 14 full-time officers and 6 part-time police officers at both the Hammond and Westville campuses. The Purdue Northwest Police Department is a state-certified and sworn police agency that strongly embraces community policing and it’s officers have a vested interest in keeping PNW a safe university.
The PNW Department of Public Safety develops and implements a variety of planning activities related to public safety operations, such as developing contingency plans for handling emergency situations, planning security coverage for all events, and identifying professional development or training needs.
In addition, PNW Public Safety holds emergency drills that teach our faculty, staff and students how to respond in a critical incident. Ultimately the exercises help our students learn valuable responses that increase PNW’s overall safety.
