The PNW Construction Science and Organizational Leadership department opened the newly named AES Soils and Materials Testing Laboratory at the Hammond Campus on October 15, 2021.

The lab is a teaching and research facility with state-of-the-art equipment used by students in the construction engineering and management technology program for testing soils and construction materials according to the American Society for Testing & Materials standards.

AES (Advanced Engineering Services) is a Hammond-based geotechnical engineering services company that engineers the soil-structure interaction by sampling from project sites, testing them in the field and lab and analyzing them to develop various geotechnical parameters in order to complement the design of the project. AES was represented at the event by AES President, Akhtar Zaman and several AES employees who are PNW alumni.

AES also provides internship opportunities to PNW students. “The most valuable experiences that we can provide to our students are those applied experiences that they get when they work closely with companies,” said Chris Holford, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
