GLIAC Council of Presidents Votes to Suspend All Sports Competition
Following a thorough evaluation of all COVID-19 risks and safety protocols the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Council of Presidents and Chancellors voted unanimously on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 to suspend all sports competition until January 1, 2021
“The decision made by the GLIAC Council of Presidents to suspend all sports competition was made with the safety and well-being of our student-athletes as the primary concern and I supported this decision,” said PNW Chancellor Thomas Keon. “I know our student-athletes are disappointed, as is the entire PNW Pride community, but we will continue to persevere and hopefully look forward to competitions in the spring.”
“Our first priority is the health, safety and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans” said Rick Costello, PNW Director of Athletics. “I know that this is a disappointing decision for our student-athletes who have worked so hard to put themselves in a position to compete. However, we are inspired by the persistence, determination, and resiliency of our student-athletes and look forward to returning to play as soon as it is safe. PNW Athletics will be here to support the Pride as we Power Onward.”
As we move forward, PNW will honor all athletic scholarships and continue to provide students university support including academic advising, tutoring and counseling. PNW looks forward to our students returning to campus and resuming training this fall. In accordance with the recent NCAA Board of Governors directives regarding student-athlete well-being, PNW continues to seek clarification as it relates to skill training, strength and conditioning, practices and voluntary workouts.
