Tree Hike Series: Summer Tree Identification
August 16, 2025 @ 2:00 pm - 3:45 pm

Join Gabis in the Tree Hike Series, while learning about how to identify Summer Trees!
Join Forestry Expert, Lenny Farlee, on a summer tree identification hike. Lenny has a master’s degree in forest management from Purdue University and is the extension forester for the Hardwood Tree Improvement and Regeneration Center at Purdue University. Lenny will point out key identifying features for a variety of tree species. We will mostly be looking at the leaves, fruit, nuts and flowers of these trees.
Expect to leave with a better understanding of key identifying characteristics of native trees species. Please bring water as we will be outside for an extended period of time.
Gabis Arboretum will be hosting a series of tree hikes throughout the year. We plan on having one in spring, summer and winter, all focusing on different aspects of our trees. Read the individual descriptions to learn what each hike will focus on.
Meet in first parking lot.
Please note that you will need to sign up for each hike independently. Signing up for one does not sign you up for the remaining events.
Limited to 20 participants.
Program participation is free. Arboretum admission fees apply for non-members.
