Pruning 101 and Advanced Pruning Techniques (Two-Day Workshop)

The Gabis Arboretum at Purdue Northwest is excited to host a two-day hands-on pruning workshop. George Brenn, owner of Four Seasons Landscaping in Valparaiso and Chairman of the Indiana Accredited Horticulturist Program, will guide participants through classroom instruction and field demonstrations.
REGISTER FOR THE PRUNING WORKSHOP
Session One—Saturday, March 18
Receive an introduction to the basic principles of pruning, including how and when to prune, how plants will respond, types of pruners, tools needed, the differences between fall bud and spring bud, and apical dominance. The day will end with hands-on practice on branches brought into the building. This part of the workshop will be held indoors at the Gabis Arboretum Depot Building.
Session Two—Saturday, April 1
Participants will put pruning techniques into practice on certain plants in the arboretum’s Welcome Garden and Railway Garden. This part of the workshop will be held outdoors. Participants should dress for field work.
Participants must attend both sessions. This workshop qualifies for four continuing education credits (CEU’s) for the Indiana Nursery & Landscape Association (INLA).
Program Fee (Includes Both Sessions)
- $20 per arboretum member/$25 per non-member.
Class size is limited to 30.
