Applying for a Parent PLUS Loan

Need help applying for a Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan?

Parent PLUS loans may not be accepted in the Self-Service Banner. Parent borrowers may apply at Studentaid.gov

  1. Click “Log In”
  2. Enter your Username and Password (your FSA ID)
  3. Click the “Log In” button.
  4. Read the warning and click “Accept”
  5. Under the APPLY FOR AID dropdown, click on “Apply for a Parent PLUS loan”
  6. Read all of the information including “What do I need?” and then click on “Start under Apply for a PLUS Loan”
  7. Read the information and click on “View What You Need” and Access PLUS Counseling for more information on PLUS borrowing
  8. Select the Award Year
    1. For example: 2024-2025 is for fall 2024, spring 2025 and summer 2025 semesters
  9. Enter Student Information
  10. Enter School and Loan Information
    1. Select INDIANA under “Choose a state”
      1. Search for PURDUE UNIVERSITY NORTHWEST by name
        (enter Purdue University Northwest for students attending either the Hammond campus or Westville campus)
  11. Loan Period dates at Purdue Northwest run as follows:
    1. Fall and spring loan dates run from August to May
    2. Fall-only loans run from August to December
    3. Spring-only loans run from January to May
    4. Summer loans run from May to August
  12. Click “Continue”
  13. Enter the Borrower Information and click  “Continue”
  14. Review the information and click “Continue”
  15. Open the “Important Notices”
    1. Click on the boxes to agree and then click on “Continue”

The Office of Financial Aid will process the PLUS loan and the student/parent will be notified if any additional documentation is needed.
