FSD 22-12 Veteran GPA Requirement
FSD 22-12 Resolution for Lowering of High School GPA admission criteria from 2.3 to 2.0 for those who serve or have served in the Military
PURDUE UNIVERSITY NORTHWEST FACULTY SENATE
Committee: Educational Policy
For Discussion: April 14th, 2023
Whereas: Colin Fewer (DOS) and Anthony Pilota (Veterans Services Coordinator) brought forth a proposal to modify the PNW high school GPA requirement for veterans. It was noted that since many veterans graduated from high school several years ago, their high school GPA is not a good indicator of future academic success. In fact, veterans typically accumulate new educational credentials during military service and are accustomed to positions of leadership. Veterans typically have the benefit of tuition and living expense allowances that additionally facilitate their student success. Upon admission, Veterans would still need to take the math and writing placement tests before registering for courses. Veterans would also be required to compose a “personal statement” to indicate their academic goals.
Be It Resolved: The Education Policy Committee recommends we change the PNW high school GPA requirement from 2.3 to 2.0 for those who serve or have served in the Military.
