PURDUE UNIVERSITY NORTHWEST FACULTY SENATE
FSD 20-14 Resolution on a Proposal for Unification of College of Engineering and Sciences (CES) and College of Technology (COT) to College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
Committee: Educational Policy
For Discussion: January 15, 2021
Whereas: The December 11, 2020 Faculty Senate meeting featured the discussion of a proposal by Provost Holford and by Niaz Latif, Dean of the College of Technology and Interim Dean of the College of Engineering and Sciences, and
Whereas: The proposal was referred to the Education Policy Committee and the Committee was tasked with giving the Senate the benefit of its advice on this issue, and
Whereas: A survey of faculty of both colleges found a majority of faculty from both CES and COT clearly do not currently support this merger and, further, express questions about budget savings, administrative structure, long term effects on student enrollments, and different effects of the merger on CES and COT,
The EPC recommends that the Provost actively consult the faculties of both CES and COT to clarify questions and to create possible alternative proposals supported by a majority of faculty from these colleges.
