Senate Action and Date:
- For Discussion, 3/9/2018;
Whereas, section III.C.8 of the Faculty Senate Constitution gives the Faculty the right to advise on matters concerning “Policies affecting the general welfare, privileges, tenure and responsibilities of The Purdue University Northwest faculty, standards for appointment, and procedures for academic promotion of members of the faculty”; and,
Whereas, the Faculty wish to promote fair and equal treatment for everyone going through the promotion and tenure process while still safeguarding the security of all materials associated with this process; and
Whereas, member of promotion and tenure committees at both campus locations need to have access to both the application materials and supporting evidence in order to read the materials and provide informed feedback during promotion and tenure meetings; and
Whereas, supporting materials for promotion and tenure may include journal articles, books, award trophies and plaques, and other bulky materials;
Therefore, be it resolved that the Senate supports and endorses a shared governance approach to investigate digital options and systems in which the promotion and tenure materials could be uploaded by each candidate and accessed digitally by each committee member through a secure system.
