- Degree Name(s):
Section 1: This section is for changes in programs, minors and certificates
List the major changes in each program of study, minor or certificate
- The name of the minor will be changed from “Minor in Creative and Professional Writing” to “Minor in Creative Writing as a Profession.” This sharpens the focus of the minor and helps to distinguish the minor from existing major and certificate programs—some confusion was created through the merger of the two English departments.
- The minor will now require 6 hours of upper-level creative writing electives and 3 hours of upper-level professional writing electives. Previously, a student could take 3 or 6 in creative writing and 3 or 6 in professional writing. This change ensures that students complete at least 6 hours of senior-level craft workshop courses.
- The list of technical and professional writing courses that students may take to satisfy the upper-level electives requirement has been expanded to reflect the greater variety of offerings now available after the merger.
- The bingo sheet has been updated throughout to reflect both course numbers in instances where two courses have similar names and near-identical objectives on the two campuses, such as English 40900: Introduction to Fiction Writing on the Westville campus and English 41800: Short Fiction Writing on the Hammond campus. The bingo sheet now lists both courses as a single option in the Creative Writing Electives category. This way, students will see that they can take these courses on either campus to fulfill the requirements, but they’ll also know that they may not take duplicate courses and have it count toward the minor.
- The internship course (ENGL 42001/48000) has been moved up to the top of the bingo sheet to be clearly listed as a required course.
The requirements and prerequisites remain the same (though the composition course numbers have been updated to reflect PNW’s numbers.)
