RE: Expansion of PNW Food Pantry to Westville Campus and the Chancellor’s Challenge
I am pleased to announce that the PNW Food Pantry, which began as a pilot program serving students in University Village residence halls in August 2019, is expanding to serve students at the Westville Campus.
To encourage donations to assist a broader number of students, I am sponsoring the Chancellor’s Challenge during Philanthropy Week as part of PNW’s Homecoming Month celebration. The college or vice chancellor unit that collects the most non-perishable food items between Feb. 3 through Feb. 5 will win the coveted Chancellor’s Cup! Since the Chancellor’s Cup is a traveling trophy, the winning unit also will receive a plaque.
The PNW Food Pantry began as a way to address the growing challenge of food insecurity among college students. Since its inception in summer 2019, the Food Pantry has been supported by 13 food drives and $2,400 in donations. A total of 74 distributions of food have been completed to PNW students through the Office of Housing and Residential Education.
Now we have the opportunity to help any PNW student on both campuses who may be experiencing food insecurity. The next distribution will be held shortly after Spring Break in March.
Each participating unit will have a special collection area on each campus during Philanthropy Week. Details have been shared with the deans and vice chancellors, and it is up to each college/unit to rally your teams to collect items.
Donations will be counted on Thursday, Feb. 6. The winning team will be determined based on which unit collects the highest number of items per employee average. The winner will be announced at the Pride Professionals in Training Networking event on Feb. 6.
Questions can be directed to Scott Iverson, executive director of Housing and Residential Education, at siverson@temp.pnw.edu or ext. 4151.
Thank you for your support! Go Pride!
