Wheels of Steel and Houses of Joy: A Circular Evolution of Hip-Hop

February 27, 2025 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

Join us for an engaging presentation by Heather Augustyn, M.A., as she explores hip-hop’s roots through the lens of language, culture, and history.

This talk will trace the journey of jive language from Harlem in the 1930s and 40s, its transformation into toasting in Jamaica in the 1950s and 60s and its evolution into rap in the Bronx during the 1970s and 80s.
