Matthew Bauman’s research investigates consumer behavior in hospitality settings, focusing on craft beverage tourism and, more recently, inclusive dining experiences for customers with dietary restrictions.

Bridge Funding Internal Grant Awardee: “Bridge Program for Thinking with Algebra”

David Feikes’ research interests include algebra readiness and how to provide professional development to help teachers prepare students conceptually for algebra; how to improve mathematics education in developing countries; and the nature and role of algebraic structure in the teaching and learning of algebra.

HSI Grant Awardee: “Commuting Between Cultures: The Double Burden of Social Mobility for Hispanic First-Gen College Students”

Alessandra Lembo’s research interests include culture, sociological theory and research design and methods. She uses primarily qualitative methods to explore how past experiences shape how we perceive and make sense of present circumstances.

Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Research Instrumentation Internal Grant Awardee: “Building a High-Speed Wind Tunnel Laboratory for Student and Faculty Research at PNW”

Yun Liu’s areas of expertise include bio-fluid mechanics, renewable energy, three-dimensional flow measurement/visualization, optical flow diagnostics and multiphase flow.


Ying LuoYing Luo, Ph.D.

Associate Professor, Computer Information Technology

Bridge Funding Internal Grant Awardee: “Privacy-Optimized Behavioral Evaluation and Retrieval (PROBER)”

Ying Luo’s research focuses on algorithm design, database management, and cybersecurity. Her areas of expertise include privacy protection in information systems, multimedia information analysis, and the application of wearable technology in healthcare.

Ezra Mutai, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor of Food and Nutrition

HSI Grant Awardee: “Overcoming barriers to College Success: Combating Food Insecurity and Substance Abuse through Innovative, Culturally Responsive Programs at a Hispanic-Serving Institution”

Ezra Mutai’s research interests include understanding the role and mechanisms through which bioactive food compounds play on the prevention and/or treatment of chronic diseases.

Seed Funding for Academic Books Internal Grant Awardee: “Finite Element Method for Momentum, Heat and Mass Transfer with Environmental and Engineering Applications”

Xiuling Wang’s research and teaching focus is computational fluid dynamics, numerical heat and mass transfer, wind energy and air quality modeling.
