SMSVC Meeting Highlights Decarbonization and Digitalization
Thank you to over 60 SMSVC industry attendees for a very productive Annual Meeting on November 9th & 10th at CIVS. The meeting was opened with the CIVS & SMSVC overview by Dr. Chenn Zhou, followed by SMSVC project technical presentations by CIVS students and staff. The session included comments by project technical committee industry members.

Dr. Chenn Zhou, director of CIVS was recognized by Iron and Steel Technology Magazine as an AIST distinguished member and fellow for her commitment to making a direct impact on greener and smarter steel manufacturing. The three page article was published in Volume 19, October 2022.

At the Alleghany Highlands Industrial Heritage and Technology Discovery Center, visitors have the opportunity to experience the process of placing a blast furnace into operation and witness raw ore being smelting into pure iron.

U.S. Department of Energy Managers Commended CIVS-Industry partnerships
U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) representatives Dr. John ‘Nick’ Lalena (R&D Projects Technology Manager) and Kristen McDaniel (Technical Project Officer, Advanced Manufacturing Office) had a productive visit on October 4th, 2022 to review the progress of the Integrated Virtual Blast Furnace (IVBF) project.

Research Ethics Discussed at Weekly Student Seminar
On September 30th, CIVS welcomed guest speaker Sean Courtney, the Senior Compliance Officer for Purdue University West Lafayette campus to discuss research ethics and the tools, services, and procedures in place at Purdue that help researchers approach allegations and instances of research misconduct.
