Syed Imran, a newly graduated CIVS research assistant, will join SMSVC member company Linde Engineering North America as a Mechanical Engineer after successfully defending his thesis and being an integral part of many impactful CIVS research projects. His collaboration with industry leaders allowed him the insight to pursue his career goals competitively. He is looking forward to working on various projects, including modular hydrogen generators, cryogenic tanks, and hydrogen truck trailers.

Working as a Research Assistant at CIVS gave me a strong foundation in research methodology. It’s where I developed strong skills in design & analysis using CFD and FEA. This experience was pivotal, offering an exceptional platform to prepare for my engineering career. This valuable research exposure, combined with my prior industry experience, prepared me to address engineering challenges with evidence-based solutions.

Syed Imran

During his academic career and working as a research assistant at CIVS, he focused on two projects:

  • Reduced Order Modeling for Fast Performance Prediction
  • Design & Optimization of Kanbara Reactor Ladle

Syed Imran successfully defended his thesis titled “Applications of Computational Fluid Dynamics in the Industry” on December 4th in the CIVS Immersive Theater and graduated with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He also accomplished many highlightable achievements, such as:

  • Presentation of his paper “Optimization of Vane-Style Variable Area Flowmeter Calibration Through CFD Analysis” at ASME IMECE 2023
  • Receiving a 2023-24 Graduate Research Award for his project “Optimization of Vane-Style Variable Area Flowmeter Calibration through CFD Analysis with STAR-CCM+”
  • Serving as President of The Material Advantage Club
    • The Material Advantage Club was made by and for students seeking to optimize their materials engineering journey. It provides students with access to multiple prominent materials-based societies. This empowers students to enhance their academic pursuits and establish a strong basis for professional engagement after graduation.
  • Presenting his poster at PNW Days of Discovery 2023 entitled “Calibration of Flowmeter using CFD with STAR-CCM+”

For aspiring students seeking roles in the industry, my advice is to start by thoroughly researching the company and the specific job role. Compile a comprehensive list of skills that align with the employer's requirements, tailor your resume to match the job description by including relevant keywords. Additionally, focus on networking, building connections, and leveraging those connections to enhance your prospects.
