Research Ethics Discussed at Weekly Student Seminar
On September 30th, CIVS welcomed guest speaker Sean Courtney, the Senior Compliance Officer for Purdue University West Lafayette campus to discuss research ethics and the tools, services, and procedures in place at Purdue that help researchers approach allegations and instances of research misconduct. This session was invaluable to students who engage in research on various CIVS projects. These student seminars take place in the immersive theater every Friday and include industry standards and practice exposure for CIVS students.
“Before attending this seminar, I had limited prior knowledge of the rights granted to researchers. I gained that knowledge, and exposure to a variety of ethical conventions in research, such as criteria for authorship, copyright and patenting policies, data sharing policies, and confidentiality laws in peer review. an understanding of the significance of working in a team,” said Ninad Patil, a graduate student working with the simulation team on Continuous Casting steelmaking at CIVS.
