Invited Talk at DOE ARPA-E Workshop
Chenn Zhou and Tyamo Okosun gave an invited talk at a DOE ARPA-E virtual workshop on Zero-Emission Iron- And Steelmaking on August 31, 2021. Their presentation title was “Enabling Digital Technologies for Iron and Steelmaking Processes”. The gave an overview on the Center for Innovation through Visualization and Simulation (CIVS), the Steel Manufacturing Simulation and Visualization Steel Consortium (SMSVC), described CIVS & SMSVC methodologies and digital transformation technologies. Several examples were demonstrated including the integrated virtual blast furnace and E-Iron Nugget Process Scale-Up.
The workshop was organized by the Department of Energy (DOE) Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) from noon to 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday, August 31, and Wednesday, September 1. The objective of this workshop was to solicit stakeholder feedback and ideas regarding the scope of a potential disruptive program focused on technologies to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions from the production of iron and steel. The workshop agenda featured speakers from within and outside the steel industry, as well as several interactive breakout sessions. More details on the workshop can be found here.
