Samuel Nielson Received a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Samuel Nielson, a CIVS Graduate Research Assistant, recently received a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University Northwest. His thesis is titled “Numerical Investigation of Nontraditional Gaseous Fuel Injection into an Ironmaking Blast Furnace” and is an investigation of novel ideas to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the blast furnace.
Samuel received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue Northwest in May 2018. He was then admitted into the Mechanical Engineering Master’s program at Purdue University Northwest while working as a Graduate Research Assistant at CIVS and plans to continue his studies at Purdue West Lafayette, pursuing a Ph.D. degree also in Mechanical Engineering.
Sam said, “My work at CIVS provided me with more hands-on experience in industry-relevant projects than coursework alone. Being able to collaborate with engineers in the field and work on research to understand and provide solutions for real problems provided insight into how engineering works in the real world.”
