Student Success Story: Haibo Ma
Haibo Ma, a CIVS Graduate Research Assistant, recently received a Doctoral Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University West Lafayette. His Ph.D. thesis titled “On Heat Transfer Mechanisms in Secondary Cooling of Continuous Casting of Steel Slab” received positive feedback from the academic committee on May 12th, 2021.
Haibo Ma received his B.S. in Thermal Energy and Dynamic Engineering from Central South University in China in June 2014. He was then admitted into the 1+1 master’s degree program established by Central South University and Purdue University Northwest while working as a Graduate Research Assistant at CIVS due to his excellent academic record and passion for research. Haibo received dual master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University Northwest and in Engineering Thermophysics from Central South University in 2017. Shortly after graduation, he entered the doctoral program in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University in West Lafayette in the fall of 2017.
In addition to conducting research projects, Haibo has contributed to more than a dozen published technical papers and reports. Haibo’s academic strengths are also complemented by his demonstrated leadership skills – he served as Vice President of the Chinese Student Association at Purdue University Northwest. He is also very active and willing to assist with any task. “CIVS and SMSVC provided an extraordinary range of opportunities for experiential learning.
