Ph.D. Student, Yuchao Chen, Presented at AIST Electric Steelmaking Committee Meeting

CIVS Ph.D. Student, Yuchao Chen, was invited to present his research findings at the AIST Electric Steelmaking committee meeting on October 20, 2020. The Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) hosted the Electric Steelmaking committee meeting.  The meeting was established to serve and support the ESTC members and the iron/steel industry by providing forums for technical information exchange, personal development, and networking.

In the meeting, Yuchao Chen gave an overview of the Steel Manufacturing Simulation and Visualization Consortium (SMSVC) project on the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF).  He demonstrated methodologies, and examples of the EAF model implementation.  Yuchao introduced the details of the developed CFD electric arc model, which can be applied to investigate the AC & DC arc behavior and provide the quantitative analysis of the arc performance. Participants showed high interest in the presented model and fully affirmed the research conducted by CIVS students.
