CHESS Student Organizations Win Awards
A faculty member, a student and three organizations in CHESS received special recognition from the Dean of Students for their work in student activities during the 2020-2021 academic year.
Yu Ouyang, assistant professor of political science and adviser of the Political Science Club, was designated as the Exceptional Adviser. Viviana Plaza, political science major and employee of the college’s Career Closet, was recognized as a Rising Leader for her work in Pi Sigma Alpha, the honorary society in political science.
CHESS student organizations receiving honors included the Public Relations Club, outstanding student organization; the Economics Club, event of the year for “Careers in Action” and exceptional educational event for “Careers in Economics”; and the Spanish Club, exceptional cultural and philanthropic events for “Semestal Dance Tables” and “Churros for a Cause.”
Dean Elaine Carey had this to say, “Clubs and organizations offer PNW-CHESS students the opportunities to socialize with their friends and colleagues. More importantly, students meet local leaders, learn about careers, and gain experience in leadership, event planning, and team projects. “
