Tom Albano, Senior Associate Athletic Director with PNW Pride Athletics, is eager to see all student-athletes excel in the classroom and in their sports.

As a former PNW baseball player who was the recipient of a scholarship, he has walked in their shoes and understands the impact a generous gift can provide for a student-athlete’s success.

What does philanthropy mean to you?

“I think it is one of the most impactful things we can do as individuals. Making a gift to our students comes from a place of appreciation. It speaks to the type of experience we had as students and the recognition of how PNW positively shaped and changed our lives. It is symbolic of continuing to invest in future generations so that they can share in a similar experience.”

Why do you choose to give in support of PNW students?

“I wholeheartedly believe in this place. I am a product of Purdue Northwest. It has shaped who I am and what I am doing today. It is where I had my college baseball career and it is where I have my professional career. I owe this place everything.”

Are there any specific organizations, scholarships or funds you prefer to give to at PNW?

“I have primarily given to athletics in the past, being a former student-athlete. Interacting with our student-athletes on a daily basis, hearing their stories and seeing where they come from has really motivated me to do more. It is a very diverse group of students from a multitude of backgrounds. That additional help allows them to help put food on the table, or reduce their overall cost towards tuition, fees and books.”

How do you encourage your colleagues to support PNW students through their philanthropy?

“I believe in the words that no gift is too small. Some people may think they do not have much to give. I do not think that really matters because it is the culmination of everyone’s gifts at the end of the day that counts.

I think it starts with us coming from an understanding that we have privilege and a responsibility. I believe education is our most precious resource and we have to invest in that. Take a look at who we serve. These dollars count. They matter for our recruitment and retention efforts. They help students who produce results, earn their diplomas and go on to impact the region we live in.”
