Changing Students’ Lives Starts with Us: Laura Odom

Laura Odom, executive director of the office of Institutional Equity and Title IX Coordinator, is proud to support Purdue University Northwest students and their academic journeys toward a college degree that positively distinguishes them in their professional careers.
Odom understands students’ path to graduation takes determination, grit and resilience, and that the generous gifts from donors enhance their opportunities for well-rounded learning experiences.
Why do you choose to give in support of PNW students?
“With a joyful heart, I give in support of PNW students for many reasons. My desire is that every PNW student is set up for success to fulfill a bright future. I am confident that a reputable Purdue Northwest degree sets a firm foundation for PNW alumni to make a positive difference in our world.
For example, an alumnus shared with me his amazing experience at PNW. Specifically, this alumnus expressed that PNW transformed his life and led him to his career. He also acknowledged that he would not be where he is today if it was not for PNW. This alumnus also likes to hire PNW graduates because of the respect and trust he has in PNW.”
How do you encourage your colleagues to support PNW students through their philanthropy?
“Students benefit from the gifts provided by donors. Whether the gift is for student life, scholarships or facilities, all contributions make a difference. For example, scholarships awarded to students make college more affordable. Additionally, quality facilities provide space for students to make friendships, network with mentors and community members, and enjoy student activities.”
How do you feel making a gift to PNW students shows how we Power Onward?
“I feel honored to work for a place where I can give back in many ways by offering my time, talent and monetary gifts. Ultimately, I feel that I am helping others fulfill their dream when making gifts to the university. PNW strives toward providing a quality educational experience to prepare students to Power Onward in their future endeavors. Moreover, seeing others succeed because of their positive PNW experience makes my heart happy and confirms my commitment to keep on giving. I am committed to contributing toward setting students up for success!”
