Changing Students’ Lives Starts with Us: David Pratt

David Pratt

David Pratt has poured his heart into mentoring students at all levels during his career, from K-12 settings to college students.

Pratt serves as associate dean of the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, director of the School of Education and Counseling, and associate professor of Education at PNW.  For him, inspiring and impacting the next generations of leaders is characteristic of human nature. By making a gift toward students’ academic success, PNW employees can make an enduring difference that will be felt for years to come.

Why do you choose to give in support of PNW students?

“Everything I do is about wanting to help students be successful, and a lot of that comes from my love of teaching and mentoring students — especially the students we have, many of whom are first-generation.

Every student comes to us with a variety of needs. Meeting the students where they are, helping them grow and reach their full potential for their life and career goals, that is what I am all about. Part of that is giving back financially, because I know those contributions go to a good cause.”

What does philanthropy mean to you?

“I think being a person in this world and human nature means giving back. I think it is a responsibility all of us should have. You can do that in a variety of ways, but financially is one of them. The amount you give, no matter how much it is, you can see the difference it makes.”

What do you like to tell your colleagues about how they can impact PNW students through their philanthropy?

“There are so many opportunities all year long to give back, but my best suggestion for colleagues is to set up a regular gift through payroll deduction. You never miss it! In the moment, you may not realize its effect, but as time goes along you will see how big of an impact it has for the university and our students.”

How do you feel making a gift to PNW students shows how we Power Onward?

“Making a gift helps every part of our university move forward. This place is constantly getting bigger, better, and reaching more people. Making a gift contributes to an ongoing cycle that not only puts funds in different places to reach our students but also inspires others to give back too. Building this belief in giving back makes a difference in realizing dreams and giving people hope, which is essential to Powering Onward.”
