Fall 2022 Pedagogy Circle Meeting
October 5, 2022 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm
Towards Inclusive Curricula: Succeeding despite Challenges
Our theme this semester is “Succeeding despite Challenges.” We may want to frame our conversation around the following questions:
- How can individual instructors create a productive learning environment and succeed in their professional endeavors despite ever-present biases (conscious and unconscious)?
- How can we handle challenging situations where our unconscious biases or those of students might negatively impact the learning environment?
- How can we as an academic community acknowledge unconscious (and conscious) biases and pave a path forward?
For a broad definition of inclusivity and to consider how aspects of identity can impact academic environments, view the Academic Wheel of Privilege*. We are fortunate enough to have for a speaker, Dr. Gokarna R. Aryal, PNW Professor of Statistics, and winner of the 2022 Founder’s Day Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award.

Co-sponsored by the Dept. of History, Philosophy, Politics and Economics and the Center for Faculty Excellence, the Pedagogy Circle is a forum where faculty gather to discuss what they love most – issues and problems relevant to teaching practices. Participants bring valuable insights and input to these meetings, but also benefit – through discussion, shared teaching tips, etc.
