Communities of Care: Virtual Symposium on Trauma- and Resilience-Informed Teaching
April 19 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
LEAP Indiana is hosting this virtual symposium.
Current research is sounding the alarm regarding the emotional and psychological well-being of students, including reports of “an unprecedented mental health crisis” in Indiana with over 47% of girls in grades 7-12 “feeling sad or hopeless for two or more weeks in a row.” LEAP Indiana is hosting a “Communities of Care: Virtual Symposium on Trauma- and Resilience-Informed Teaching and Learning” to empower educators to better recognize students in crisis and serve their needs via classroom practices, curriculum development, and community building.
Special guest David Robinson – Executive Director of Hope Is, Researcher for The Center of Prolonged Grief, and SAFElab Fellow for Columbia University’s Harlem Loss Project – will keynote the symposium with several smaller sessions led by faculty from across the state. Attendees can expect to learn more about various aspects of trauma-sensitive care and will receive a resources packet including research, readings, and pedagogical tools to take back to one’s classrooms and home institutions.
