Your resume will be scanned and most hiring managers or HR professionals may only look at your resume for 30-60 seconds. Therefore, you need to make sure that the most interesting and compelling information about your skills, qualifications and accomplishments are at the top of your resume, so they read this information about you FIRST. - Objective: A brief statement concerning what you hope to achieve with this work experience.
- Education: Institution, Month & Year of Graduation, Degree you will receive with Minor area.
- Work Experience: Position, Organization, Month & year worked, work experience statements.
- Honors & Activities: List honors and organizations you have been involved with.
Serves as a brief introduction of yourself and your resume. Your goal is not to restate what your resume has to say but to instead offer a more personal view of yourself and highlight some of your key qualities or skills that make you perfect for the job. Your cover letter should be around three (3) paragraphs, each serving a purpose. Use The Online Career Center or Handshake Resources for more assistance.
The Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) provides information on what workers do; the work environment; education, training, and other qualifications; pay; the job outlook; information on state and area data; similar occupations; and sources of additional information, for 325 occupational profiles, covering about 4 out of 5 jobs in the economy.
The O*NET Program is the nation’s primary source of occupational information. Valid data are essential to understanding the rapidly changing nature of work and how it impacts the workforce and U.S. economy. From this information, applications are developed to facilitate the development and maintenance of a skilled workforce.
