Career Resources for Veterans
The transition from military life to civilian life can be stressful. The PNW Career Center can assist veteran students who are in this transition when it comes to career exploration, development, and planning.
There are a lot of no-cost career resources available to you that cover a large spectrum of needs, including deciding upon a career path & major, skill definition, and job & internship search.

Career Exploration Resources
- My Next Move for Veterans: My Next Move, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment & Training Administration, offers a resource for veterans that allows individuals to search jobs by keyword, browse careers by industry, and find careers that align best what a specific military job. If you are still uncertain as to what you want to do, and would like to learn more about what career paths best match your interests, there is a link on the web page that directs you to the O*Net Interest Profiler, which assesses your interests with career paths.
- Career One Stop: Similar to My Next Move for Veterans, CareerOneStop also has a resource that allows you to search for jobs that match your military experiences. This resource also has a job search function, as well as a section that provides guidance on resumes, interviews, and more.
- Military to Federal Jobs Crosswalk: Created by the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, Mil2FedJobs helps translate military occupations to federal jobs through a search. It also connects you to govto seek out federal employment vacancies.
Job & Internship Resources
- Handshake: Open to all students & alumni of Purdue University Northwest, Handshake is the campus job & internship posting system.
- Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP): The WRP is a recruitment and referral program that connects federal and private sector employers nationwide with college students and recent graduates with disabilities with job and internship opportunities. They have a recruitment initiative with disabled veterans. The program registration begins in August of each year and ends around November.
- Veterans Employment Center: In partnership with the United States Department of Labor, the Veterans Employment Center provides a job search tool and career development resources.
- Veteran Jobs Mission: The leading private-sector solution addressing U.S. military veteran unemployment. Founded in 2011, the Mission is a coalition of 11 leading companies committed to hiring 100,000 veterans by 2020. Some of the coalition companies include AT&T, Cisco Systems, Inc, EMC Corporation, Iron Mountain Incorporated, JPMorgan Chase & Co., Verizon Communications, and NCR Corporation. - Hire a Hero: The premier online job board and community choice for those who have served our country. It allows for you to create a profile, upload a resume, browse jobs and view jobs available by featured employers.
- Hire Heroes USA: free and virtual job search committed to veteran and military spouse employment.
- Veterans’ Employment & Training Service (VETS): Serve America’s veterans and separating service members by preparing them for meaningful careers, providing employment resources and expertise, and protecting their employment rights.

- CareerOneStop: They have an entire resume writing guide online, along with sample cover letters.
