Smoke Free Policy
Purdue University Northwest is committed to providing a healthy, productive and supportive environment for students, faculty, staff, guests and visitors. In order to promote a healthy learning and work environment, the Hammond and Westville campuses of Purdue University Northwest are total smoke and tobacco free environments.
- Smoking is not permitted on the public property within the boundaries of both the Hammond and Westville campuses, including all buildings, offices, doorways, walkways, sidewalks, fields and parking lots. Smoking is not permitted in any university vehicle. Smoking in private vehicles is at the discretion of the vehicle owner.
- Smoking is not permitted on the public property within the boundaries of any property owned or operated by Purdue University Northwest at an off-campus location.
- Smoking is defined as the burning of, inhaling or exhaling the smoke or vapor from, or the possession of any lighted cigar, cigarette, electronic device, pipe or any other matter or substance which contains tobacco or any other matter that can be smoked.
Enforcement of this policy is dependent upon all members of the university community complying with the policy and by reminding and encouraging others to comply as well. The Purdue University Northwest Police Department is authorized to provide information and warnings to smokers. Repeat offenders will be reported through the appropriate administrative structure and be subject to progressive disciplinary action.
Periodic review of the smoking policy will continue and revisions to this policy may be made at any time through the issuance of appropriate memorandum.
