Our members provide input on upcoming initiatives and events to influence decisions directly impacting the College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences.

Student Advisory Board Application

Join us! The CHESS Student Advisory Board meets three times per semester.

Please do not apply unless you can attend all meetings. Missing more than one meeting may result in removal from the board.

 

Department chairs nominate Student Advisory Board (SAB) members with CHESS representation and diversity in mind. Two CHESS SAB seats remain open and are chosen by current SAB members from a pool of self-identified students. Prospective students must obtain a faculty reference, meet the minimum qualifications, and complete the application.

To maintain their status as student advisory board members, students must:

  1. Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA
  2. Attend at minimum one Open House per semester
  3. Attend two CHESS events per semester
  4. Assist with additional CHESS activities as assigned
  5. Attend all Student Advisory Board meetings
  6. Maintain status as a student in the College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences

* When applying, students must have a 3.0 GPA and be in the College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences.

*Failure to meet the requirements may result in removal from the board.

CHESS Student Advisory Board Charter

Purdue University Northwest

Purpose

The College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences Student Advisory Board (SAB) was created to obtain ideas and feedback regarding programming, technology, policies, and outreach. SAB members help influence decisions directly impacting the College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences by providing their input on upcoming initiatives and events.

The Responsibilities of the Board

  • Attend monthly meetings
  • Be informed about the college, its programs, students, and activities
  • Attend open houses
  • Provide input on upcoming events
  • Attend CHESS events
  • Engage with students within the college
  • Advocate for the college through community engagement

Compilation

The board comprises approximately twelve undergraduate students to build a board that reflects all academic majors and programs. Diverse perspectives and experiences based on veteran status, gender, race, ethnicity, age, and qualifications will be critical to selecting members. Existing board members choose prospective board members from a pool of self-identified applicants. Applicants must receive a letter of recommendation from a faculty member, meet minimum SAB requirements, and fill out the SAB application.

*The student advisory board does not make decisions regarding program personnel, budget, or internal policy development within the institution.

*Board members do not provide advising services for students.

Governance

During monthly meetings, members are responsible for giving feedback to the Dean’s Office of the College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences (CHESS).

  • Liaison with the Dean’s Office
  • Liaison with CHESS SGA representatives
  • Assist with event attendance tracking and sign-up

Vice Chair

Responsibilities include:

  • Liaison with the Dean’s Office
  • Assist with event attendance tracking and sign-up
  • Fill in for the Chair of the Board when they are unable to fulfill duties
